The word cloud on the left illustrates that most events over the term at Carleton involve music. The most frequent words suggest that the events are open to the public – people beyond Carleton are actively learning about the diversity of art and music events.
The chart on the left is a sunburst chart where the innermost circle is the locations in the Weitz. The outer rings show the type of events happening at those locations. From the drop-down menu, you can view events based on departments.
The timeline below displays all the events from January to March at the Weitz. Because most events last about one to two hours, multiple events can happen on the same day and cause the timeline to look clustered and overlapped. The longest event during the winter term of 2024 at Carleton is the “Towards a Warm Embrace” exhibition.

We further processed the data by focusing on the events hosted in the Weitz. We received help from Austin Mason and Wei-Hsin Fu on geo-rectifying the Weitz floor plans and creating various ArcGIS layers.

For example, the “Events on 2nd/1st and 2nd Floor” layer contains the number of events happening in a room on the first and second floor of the Weitz.
Our next step is to create an interactive StoryMap that walks the audience through our ArcGIS map, for example, zooming in a room and demonstrating the events hosted at Weitz over time.
