A Brief Introduction to Carletonian Through Time

When we first started this project, our goal was to conduct a textual analysis of the Carletonian, a student-led newspaper at Carleton College. Our objective was to reveal how the Carletonian has changed and been shaped over time, as well as how the voices of Carleton students have reflected world events, trends, and social change over the span of almost 150 years since the first version of the Carletonian was established in 1877.

What you’ll find on this website is an array of textual analysis methods, used in the digital humanities field, such as a timeline, word frequency graphs, and sentiment analysis graphs. This project scratches the surface of the power of textual analysis tools, but it creates a fun, interactive, and informative viewing experience that allows viewers to better understand the history of the Carletonian, which we hope you enjoy.
