Visualizations

For the visualization of our data, we decided on using Racing Bar Charts since those allow for a more dynamic view of the changes in the number of graduates per year for each subject, as well as a Stacked bar Chart to highlight the difference between the number of male and female graduates for each subject. For the Racing Bar Charts, you can control the timeline by sliding the small black rectangle at the bottom and pausing the time with the circular button at the lower left corner. For the Stacked Bar Chart, left-click on the “Enter series to show” bar to choose a filter for the chart. All visualizations were created using flourish.

We wanted our visualization to be accessible to those interested in understanding the Carleton community. Our target audience includes people searching for colleges, or any other groups of people curious about the most popular majors at Carleton. Because of that, we chose to host our work in a WordPress site, since it is a very basic type of format, thus easily understandable by anyone who read through it.
