Background
Toff the Cat was a friendly cat and frequenter of Carleton’s campus – a sort of celebrity and feline adoptee of the college. He was beloved by all and was especially popular with the library set. On March 9, 2011 Toff sadly died of cancer at age 14, but his presence was not forgotten. His April 1st birthday was celebrated with book displays in the Laurence McKinley Gould Library and festive decorations. Toff will always be a part of Carleton, cemented as one of the college’s mascots.

After becoming a statue, the library staff has been dressing up Toff for different occasions. The latest edition is facemask Toff as the statue can be seen wearing a facemask in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
