We were able to get all of our data from the KRLX song repository, which started tracking data electronically in 2013. After getting access to all of that data, which tracked songs, artists, the radio show that played them, and the exact date and time it was played, we filtered it all down into separate CSV files. We organized them by song and artist, then delineated each category down into years, again starting in 2013 and ending in 2021. For most of our visualizations we used the top ten songs and artists for a given year, which makes it easier to effectively visualize.
For our comparative visualization we looked at the top song and artist from Spotify for each given year, then looked to see how they placed on KRLX’s charts.
