For our visualizations, we chose to create bar chart races to illustrate the changes in popularity of songs and artists between 2013 and 2021 and compared how top Spotify artists and songs did on KRLX for each year. For these, we used Flourish.

In creating these visualizations, we conducted exploratory analysis to try and answer our inquiries about how Carleton’s music taste has shifted over the years. Some trends we noticed were the dominations of Albuquerque and Take Me to Church in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Some artists that stayed in the top for most of the time period were Lorde and The Beatles. Looking at Spotify artist and song KRLX performance, it seems that they didn’t do that well until around 2020.
For styling and readability, we slowed down the bar chart races, changed the colors of the bars, and put the bar labels near the ends of the bars.
